Despite positive developments, life is still hard for many people in Abéné and the surrounding area.  Due to poverty and diseases, many children have lost their parents, leaving them alone.

Some are lucky enough to be cared for by their grandmother or sister, for example. However, these people often already care for many (grand)children and can no longer or hardly cope with the financial and physical pressure. Many children do not go to school here, but have to work to survive or to provide some extra income.

The orphanage is for all orphans aged 0-16 years, without distinction of religions and tribes, so that they can live in harmony.
